A MODULAR SYSTEM
The Neuromuscular Kids PDEâ„¢ is a modular engineered carbon spring system for composite & thermoplastic AFO brace designs. This simple, alignable system provides the ability to tune energy storage and return as the patient grows and changes. Simultaneously and independently adjust transverse and sagittal plane alignment (internal/external rotation and dorsi/plantar flexion).
PDEâ„¢ Kids springs are a perfect solution for:
- Smaller-sized individuals (children, youths)
- Inability to perform 9 single‑leg heel raises or delayed heel rise at terminal stance
- Stance‑phase gait deviations (crouch gait, genu recurvatum, knee instability) or frequent falls
- Nerve/muscle impairment below the knee
- Dorsiflexion and/or plantarflexion strength deficits
- Conditions such as Guillain‑Barré Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Spinal Cord Injury, Cerebral Palsy, spasticity, heel‑cord tightness
Beneficial features include:
Tri-planar stability of a custom AFO
Reliable control and ground-reaction support
Features & Benefits
COST-EFFECTIVE. BALANCED. PDEâ„¢ Neuromuscular Technology Delivers:
Prevent drop-foot
Prevent falling
Stabilize gait
Reduce foot contractures
Improve ambulation through energy return
Improve quality of life
Adjustable Alignment
The PDE modular system allows for fine-tuning the alignment during patient fitting, delivery, and follow-up - To improve the function, performance and comfort of the AFO brace.
PDE alignment shims, inserted between the PDE Spring and AFO, adjust the plantar/dorsi flexion and rotational alignment (in 2.5º increments) of both the upper-cuff & footplate individually.
Shims can be changed and adjusted at any appointment, making it possible to continuously adapt to patient changes.
Choosing The Right Spring Spring Length
Because every patient has unique needs there are no specific weight limitations that aid in spring choice. Choose the category based on your patient assessment. As a general rule you want to use the longest spring system your cuff design or patient height will allow. In an Orthopedic case where you are trying to control and limit motion to control pain, we recommend using a higher category spring in the beginning.
175mm & 225mm length springs
Common lengths to fit a wide variety of patients. Easily adjust and tune to the appropriate spring flex category to provide maximum function and energy return.

BUILD YOUR OWN BRACE We Made it Simple!
Fabricating a brace using PDE spring technology involves industry-standard methods used for composite and thermoplastic brace fabrication. If you are versed in fabricating laminated and plastic prosthetics or orthotic devices, then you can make a PDE Pediatric Neuromuscular Brace.
PDE springs are sold in kit form so you can provide your own unique brace designs with engineered consistent results.

Our partners will be happy to help.
We have partnered with two Central Fabrication companies who meet our high quality standards. (*We currently only offer central fabrication services for our Reaktivâ„¢ brand braces. Learn more about Reaktivâ„¢.)
Using The Right Anchor Kit
Anchor kits are design for specific material applications. We have created a compatability chart so you know exactly which anchor kit to use.
